Rothes Visitors' Centre
The Rothes Visitors' Centre opened its doors last summer at 74 New Street formerly, Scissortrix.  The Rothes Council members running the centre and the volunteers were thoroughly delighted with the cottage, which the Chivas-Glenlivet Group allowed them to use.  The property was given rent-free for the months of July and August as a trial period to gauge how successful the site would be.  We did, however, have to clean and paint the rooms we were going to be using.
Local businesses were very supportive in a variety of ways.  David Henderson painted the window sills, which helped to freshen up the building.  The proprietors and managers of the many local tourist oriented businesses paid us a visit provided us with leaflets and also offered us much appreciated advice and support.
Because we are a community project, The Chivas-Glenlivet Group are happy to let us have the use of the property once again.  They have kindly ensured that the cottage is wind and water tight, but we are responsible for any other costs incurred, such as electricity and decorating expenses.
This year we are hoping to open at least for the same period, and if enough volunteers come forward we could consider extending the season.
The Centre wishes to attract local people and to this end we are planning to set up a small museum display in one of the rooms.
Any contributions would be gratefully accepted.
Please contact Sheila Brumby (831588) or Betty Johnston (831550) if you can help.
