"Fond Memories O' Hame" by Edna Widgery-Farquhar.
These are memories of growing up in Rothes most of which you would all recognise. They have been told in verse and will be put into print around end of April. A draft copy is located in the Library for you to browse and if you would like a book, when printed, please place your order on the sheet attached. It will be there until mid April.
Sample of content:
It's true what they say, there's nae place like hame, I can vouch for that, 'cos it's never the same When you change your abode tae explore or tae learn, Ther's a bit o' her heart for your hame will aye yearn.
Round the Station roadie, across the lione gates And doon tae the park where we'd meet all oor mates, We made oor ain fun, we had tae in those days Never heard that wor 'bored' everyone now says.
The 'A' Team by far was the one to support, At least the guys in it we all truly adores, We'd jump on the bus, full o' the joys, And sing and hae fun wii these manly boys...
'Toot' was aye 'merry' and wid aye gie a song, Supped gallons o' tea, did he stay far too long? Well, he'd tae get sobered up before he'd gae hame, 'Meg' he didna want tae upset, he felt it a shame.
The famous sixties now they were swinging, And definitely a great time to be living, The music, the fashion, the liberation, Created happiness throughout the nation.
'Tis true, Rothes has changed, And while time can't stand still....... The crumbling wall is still there on the hill, The Castle for years had looked ready to fall, But still stands high as a landmark to all, Of our mosat precious town That sleeps in the valley... With the River Spey running down.
