Rothes School PTA
In December I mentioned that we were looking at new Football / Hockey strips for the children.  Our thanks must go to Macallan Distillery who stepped in and supplied the funding for the strips.  This means that our funds can be used for other purposes.
In March we had our annual Haggis Drive.  Always a very loud and fun filled evening.
In April the Spey Bay Dolphin Group gave an illustrated talk to a packed school hall.  This event was sponsored by the Speyburn Distillery and our thanks go to them.
Most recently we had our annual Quiz Night, the main prize being the PTA Silver Quaich.  Last year's winners returned to defend their title but they were pipped at the post by the MacGrays (previous winners of the trophy).
All this means that we are, at the moment, in a fairly healthy financial situation.  However, we are in the process of buying new track suits for the sports teams, we will be funding the entire Summer school trip and buying dictionaries for the pupils who are heading up to Speyside.  This should severely damage the Bank balance so we will go through the whole fund raising process again.  Of course, after the Summer there will be some new faces and some new parents and they will all be more than welcome to take part in any or all of our activities.

P.S.  Can anyone help with the history of the B.G. Robb Dux Medal Prize Fund or the P.I. MacDonald Prize?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Honeypot Playgroup
As the Playgroup summer term is coming to a close, the committee would like to express their thanks to all who have participated in making this year a success.  It has been a very unstable year financially and without the generosity of everyone who supported our fundraising events I don't think we would have survived.
As the Government is now offering funded places at a nursery or playgroup for children the term after their third birthday, and as most parents have chosen nursery, we are not sure how many children will be attending playgroup in August.  We cannot make plans for the next term until we have this information, so if you wish to send your child to playgroup in August please call either Tanya on 831318 or Pamela on 831311 before the end of June.  The fee will remain £2.50 per session until you receive notification of a Government funded place.

Rothes Boys' Brigade
The 1998/99 session will finish on 8th June, after which we will have our annual outing, which, this year, will be to Landmark on 12th June.
The last few meetings of this session will be 'fun times' - games, such as football, rounders, etc.
Our coffee morning will be held during September, and the next session will start around that time.

Senior Citizens
The committee wish to thank all who donated raffles, baking and items for the bottle stall.  The sum of £591 was raised.
The season finished with a run to Stonehaven.  We start again in September.

We are running our own festival in Glen Rothes on the 29th of August, where proceeds will be used for future travel expenses.

Rothes Bridge Club
As reported in a previous edition of
The Rothesian, Rothes Bridge Club had its fiftieth birthday this year.
To celebrate the occasion a party night was held in the Grant Hall and members of Bridge Clubs from Tomintoul, Aberlour, Elgin and Lossiemouth enjoyed a convivial evening, a friendly game and the excellent catering of the Ben Aigen Hotel.
Two couples, Mr & Mrs Leslie Grant and Mr & Mrs Hamish Smith, former club members from the 1950 era, attended and enjoyed meeting members old and new as well as taking some of the prizes.
Whilst the club is in need of additional members, it struggles on from year to year and it would be a great pity if another recreational activity were to succumb for the lack of support.
