SCHOOL NEWS
Rothes Primary School We are drawing to the end of another industrious and successful year. The school was inspected in January and our long awaited report was published on 25th May. We were delighted to see that Her Majesty's Inspectors were impressed and the report suitably reflects the hard work and commitment of staff, pupils, parents and the local community of Rothes. Both school and nursery have enjoyed a busy term. We have had visits from a wide range of people and pupils have travelled far and wide to participate in a variety of activities including the Scottish National Orchestra's Schools Prom in Aberdeen and The Gordonstoun School Sporting Skills Training Day. Our fund raising for The Red Nose Appeal raised a magnificent £550. Thank you to everyone who supported this worthy cause. We are now practising for the Rothes Gala Fun Run and rehearsing for the School Ceilidh which will take place in The Grant Hall on Thursday 24th June. Our school year ends on Thursday 1st July when we will hold our annual End of Term Prize Giving and we will be saying goodbye to Rev. Ivan Warwick who has given the school great support during his time in Rothes. We wish him and his family well for the future. During the summer, Mr. Bell whose son Jamie is in nursery plans to walk the West Highland Way. He hopes to raise money for the school. Please contact the school if you would like to sponsor him.
Speyside High School Speyside High School is drawing to the end of another busy year as the Standard Grades and Highers draw to a close. The brown envelopes with the results are due in early August. In March, the music department held their Spring Concert in which many Rothes pupils took part. Several were successful in the Rotary Awards with James Johnston, Catriona Graham and Chris Baker receiving Young Musician Awards. The school participated in the Red Nose Day raising a record amount of money for this cause. For themselves, they will be fund-raising on 17th June with a sponsored walk from Aberlour to Dufftown and back via Craigellachie, a distance of 17 kilometers. The school runs many out of school activities which are expensive to operate in a rural area, and fund-raising to support these is essential. Activities Day on 28th May saw the school and staff involved in pony trekking, fishing, canoeing, golfing, hill walking among many others. Yet again, rain fell and all got wet! The Awards Ceremony is on 4th June and will be reported in the next edition.
