I'M JUST A ROTHES LOON
I was born 17th November, 1934, up the lane beside Glen Grant warehouses. I soon became a member of the "Back Street Boys", and was striker in the 1949 Rothes School Team, nick-named "Mattie". I served in the RAF, 1952-1956, with tours of duty in Egypt and Cyprus. After returning from Cyprus in 1956, I joined a construction firm laying steel rods below the concrete on the new "Chine" brig (Boat o' Brig). However with the cold blast of winter blowing down the Spey, I figured there must be an easier way to earn a living, so in December 1956, I started work at De Havillands' aircraft factory in Hatfield, Herts. In September 1957, I joined KLM Royal Dutch Airlines as Customer Service Agent, and played football for KLM Flying Dutchman Club. I then joined BOAC (now BA) in September 1960, as Reservations Agent, and enjoyed 25 years service in London, New York, Dallas and Houston. At JFK Airport in New York, I was Airport Duty Manager from 1965-71, then transferred to Sales Marketing Division, before becoming District Sales Manager covering 5 states - Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and New Mexico. In April 1984, I retired from BA to join the Department of Aviation, Houston, Texas, where I was Airport Duty Manager for 12 years. After a total of 45 years in aviation, I am now retired, and live in Houston
