At the December meeting of the Rothes Council the members heard that Moray Council had agreed to paint 'SLOW' on the road on each side of the bends over the Rothes Bridge.  They are also monitoring traffic to consider the possibility of 'village gateway' speed reducing measures at the South entrance to the town and are currently investigating traffic safety measures for the Orton approach to the roundabout for the 'viewfinder' for the Castlehill Project.  They will be working on the other information boards in early January.  Moray Council have submitted their plans to Historic Scotland for approval.

Discussions about the mess on the Railway Line have been on-going.  Mr Gordon Scott has offered to clear up the mess after the recent agricultural work.

After the Rothes Council heard that they were to receive £750 from the Gala Group for enhanced Christmas lighting for the millennium it was agreed that a Millennium Group be set up to formulate plans for Rothes for the year 2000.  It is hoped that other groups will be prepared to work with Rothes Council towards this aim.  Further discussion will take place at the next meeting.

The winter bulbs have been planted in the tubs.  Mary and Jim Anderson who have been watering the hanging baskets and planting flowers for the last fourteen years have asked that other volunteers be sought to carry on this work.  The Council expressed their gratitude for the excellent work done by Mary and Jim over these years.  The Rothes Council are also indebted to Glen Grant Distillery who have agreed to erect the Christmas lights this year.

Miss Colleen Hendry of The Moray Council and Raymond Johnston will be invited along to the next meeting to talk about the Internet and Website Project.

GRANT HALL EXTRA ORDINARY MEETING

The public meeting called by the Grant Hall Committee was very poorly attended. Alan Mulvie talked to thoses present on the legal duties and responsibilities of a Company Limited by Guarantee.  He also talked on the parts of the Articles and Memorandum where the Board had opportunities to tailor for local needs while still complying with guidelines for Charitable Status.

It was agreed that membership should be as wide as possible so would include all who reside in Rothes and surrounding area, all who work in Rothes, all who were born in Rothes or have Rothes connections.
It was agreed that the Board of Directors be twelve elected directors and five special directors with the opportunity for small variations while still keeping the maximum number of seventeen.

Documents are being drawn up to proceed with the Registration of the Company and for applying for continued charitable status

Membership subscription will be £1.  Members are the most important part of a Company Limited by Guarantee, however, it is important to always bear in mind that the Hall is run for the benefit of the public, not the members.

Senior citizens enjoy their annual lunch date at the Grant Hall
