A Trip to Remember
Day One: York here we come! For some of us it was the first time on a train. Most of us had never been away from home before. It was great when we eventually got out of the train when we arrived in York. A 20 minute walk took us to the hostel. We got our keys and put our bags in our rooms and immediately went to see the Yorkshire Museum where there was a display of beautifully decorated animal cakes. One was of Scooby Doo standing up! The museum had an exhibition called "Animal Magic". We got a real fright in the first room when we almost bumped into a gorilla's head! We also enjoyed doing animal activities including getting dressed up as animals.
Day 2: Railway Magic Excitement was high because we were going to the Railway Museum. We started the day when the teachers came round for room inspection. At eight, we went down for breakfast. The first item on our programme was the bus trip round York. After that we went to the ARC. It stands for Archeological Resource Centre. It was fun because we saw the oldest Roman poo that is still in shape. Then we sorted out what was bones and what was pottery. We opened a box to recover a set of pots made of wood. After lunch we set off for the railway museum. We looked round the North Hall and then visited Magician's Road. I liked the Intercity 125 where we pretended to drive the train.
Day 3: Eden Camp! We were all enthusiatic and keen to go and despite missing the first bus we arrived in good time. This was the day we had all been waiting for because our project at school was World War II and Eden Camp is a museum to remember the war. Many things about the war were brought to life for us, the Blitz, the Blackout, and what it must have been like to live during the war. The day was rounded off with the horrifying, hair raising Ghost Walk.
Day 4: Our last day During our last action packed day we visited York Minster and the Castle Museum. We saw the Blue Peter bosses on the ceiling of the Minster and enjoyed a trip down memory lane (well for our teachers anyway) when we visited a Chocolate exhibition at the Castle Museum. We were all tired but felt that we had an experience we would remember for a long time.
