Rothes is a small, friendly town in the North East of Scotland. Rothes lies in the beautiful Spey valley which is famous for its river, whisky distilleries and scenery. There are ruins of an old castle wall which sits on the hill at the south end of the town. King Edward 1 stayed at the castle on his way south from Elgin in 1296. His army camped below the castle. On his way south, through Scone, he 'acquired' the Coronation Stone of the Scottish Kings and took it off to London to put under his own throne. There are lots to do in Rothes. We have a large park with some swings, chutes, roundabout, see-saw and other things in it. We have tennis facilities which have 3 courts and there is also a bowling green and to the west of the village is our 9 hole golf course. Nearby there is fishing in the Spey and a local Trou Fishery and also horse riding. Rothes also lies on the "Speyside Way" where you can walk or bike. We have lovely gardens in Rothes. There is the Anvil gardens in the square and also Glen Grant Victorian Gardens which are part of the distillery.
