Many
thousands of people come to Speyside each year to follow the
world famous Malt Whisky Trail. Taking in 7 distilleries
in Moray and the Speyside Cooperage, The Malt Whisky Trail explains
the colourful history of the industry from the days of illicit
distilling in hidden glens to the methods of production we see
today. The main distilleries to visit are The Macallan Distillery of Craigellachie, Glenfarclas of Ballindalloch, The Glen Grant Distillery in Rothes, Cardhu of Knockando, The Glenlivet.of Glenlivet and Strathisla of Keith. Glenfarclas Distillery was founded in 1837 by Robert Hay then acquired by present owners J & G Grant in 1865 and there have been 5 generations of the Grant family running this establishment. There is a visitor centre which aims to give "an old fashioned Highland welcome" and shows the Glenfarclas family of malt whiskies including the unique cask strength 105. |

| The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival is held annually and is organised by Moray, Badenoch & Strathspey Enterprise, The Moray Council and Aberdeen and Grampian Tourist Board. |

beginners and reflected on the rich heritage of whisky-making
which is an integral part of the culture of communities in Speyside.
There are tours, tastings, exhibitions and opportunities for
