THE MASH TUN |
|
|
Formerly known as The Station Bar the building was originally constructed by a seafaring gentleman, if you look at it from the riverside you can visualise a small ship. It was felt that since there has not been a railway here since 1963, courtesy of the great Dr. Beeching, that a name change for this business was appropriate. We have made a pledge that as soon as the next train pulls in at the station then the pub will revert to The Station Bar. |
The name The Mash Tun comes from the whisky and the brewing
industry. It is the large vessel or vat in which the malted barley
is mixed with water and yeast. Commonly these vessels are anywhere
up to 8 metres in diameter and up to 6 metres deep. In practice
there are large stirrers that are mechanically driven inside
a mash tun. The word 'tun' is an old name for a large barrel,
and similar words can be found in most north european languages.
Real mash tuns can be seen in use at any of the local Distillerys We have a large selection of local and west coast Scotch Whisky at the bar along with probably the best choice of beers in the area. All our spirits are sold in measures of 35ml. wine by the glass is sold in measures of 175ml. We are very proud of our new kitchen, and are pleased to offer
this menu of freshly prepared meals. We hope to offer value and
a bit of variety compared to the usual pub fare. Our steaks come
from local certified stock and are supplied by our local butcher,
David Brown of Aberlour. We have them vacuum packed with our
special marinade so that they are especially tender and juicy. Our Function Suite is available for parties up to 60 persons and of course Dinners or Buffets are available subject to your requirements |
