Location
Nestling below Ben Rinnes, at 2755 feet Morays highest mountain, the scattered rural community of Edinvillie (population less than 400) abuts the southern outskirts of Charlestown of Aberlour. More correctly known as Milltown of Edinville, the ruins of the old mill still stand by the Lour burn that runs through the village to the nearby river Spey.
Business
Although mainly farmland the village is home to the world famous Benrinnes and Glenallachie distilleries. What was the village shop is now a veterinary business and to supplement the diverse commercial scene there is a family arboreal care concern, a building contractor, a contractor specialising in all types of earth moving machinery and a bed and breakfast establishment.
Community
The community hall, which is situated opposite the sadly now closed primary school, is the focal point for village life. It hosts the local Womens Rural Institute (WRI), Agricultural Club, Amateur Dramatics Club and Community Council, and is also the venue for various other activities including badminton, seasonal parties and dances that over the years have become famous throughout the region.
Environment
Wild life abounds with both red and roe deer a common sight; foxes, mink and the occasional wild cat can also be seen. Birds of all kinds are numerous with buzzards, sparrow hawks and kestrels ever present and sometimes a peregrine falcon or even a spectacular golden eagle soaring over the Ben on a visit from the Cairngorms grace the skies above this tranquil Grampian hamlet.
