CRAIGELLACHIE VILLAGE COUNCIL Since the last report the Craigellachie Village Council has been very busy participating in and organising various fundraising events. Our Musical Quiz in the hall during April proved to be very popular and our grateful thanks go to Bill Lassiter for agreeing to be Quizmaster again. All ages came along and enjoyed the challenge of trying to recognise the music. Aberlour Com. Assoc. invited us to participate in a Farmers Market as part of the Speyside Whisky Festival. We accepted their invitation and went along to sell pancakes and also held a Lucky Key Box competition; raising a total of £231 on the day. We hosted a very successful Soup and Sweet Lunch on 17 May 2009 in the village hall. The Village Council would like to thank all who donated foodstuffs or items for tombola stall. Also a big thank you to all the helpers who took money at the door; provided waiting service; tidied tables; organised and ran the tombola stall; served the soups, sweets, cheese & biscuits, tea and coffee; and also to the kitchen staff who stood over a kitchen stove to keep the soup hot, and finally, to those responsible for washing and drying the many dirty dishes that just seemed to keep coming! We raised over £700—so thank you all very, very much for coming along and we hope you enjoyed your lunch. We are organising a Homecoming Ceilidh in the village hall on Saturday 12 September 2009. The music will be provided by youngsters from the Speyside Fiddlers, who have played in the village hall before, and it promises to be a very enjoyable night with music, dancing and, hopefully, some poetry from Robert Burns. We were successful in an application for a Homecoming Community Grant from the LEADER Programme and Moray Council to assist with some of the costs involved in staging this event and look forward to sharing an enjoyable evening with as many as possible. Look out for posters nearer the time advising where to obtain tickets. The summer months are approaching and hopefully we will receive a supply of bedding plants from Moray Council for planting around the village. If anyone can spare a few hours to assist with planting out the bedding plants, or if they can take responsibility for watering plants/containers near them, then this would be much appreciated. The next meeting of the Craigellachie Village Council will be on Wednesday 17 June 2009. If anyone has any issues they would like to raise with the Village Council, or if they would like to assist with any of the fundraising events we have planned, then please do not hesitate to contact any committee member or the Hallkeeper, Willie Hendry. An extra pair of hands is always welcome. next update of information will be in September |
